We've now re-calculated September's analytics data.

Identified

The root cause of this issue is an unexpected change rolled out by Google over this month impacting Android, with a major ramp up on 18th September. Google Link Preview requests used to send requests with a special marking of "Google-PageRenderer" (a User Agent) so we could identify them as visits that do not constitute clicks, however they are no longer doing this so we are taking a new approach to identify and exclude visits from Google Link Preview by excluding traffic coming from Google servers (requests with an IP in the Google ASN in combination with the user agent containing "X11; Linux x86_64" or "X11; Ubuntu").

We are applying this new filtering of click tracking effective today at 4:26 ET. This impacts automations that fire off of link clicked and click tracking metrics.

Finally, we are planning to retrospectively apply our new filtering criteria across the entire month of September. While we cannot un-trigger an automation that has already fired, we can remove false clicks from all analytics data. Stay tuned for more updates on the corrections to the historical analytics data.

Investigating

We're investing click-through rates that are differing by more than 3 standard deviations from the normal, impacting the last few days. More details to follow as and when we know more.
